Ten Days Later
There has been ridiculous progress in the last week in a half:
- Olive now has not just one, but two lower incisors poking through her gum, and she does not hesitate to use them.
- She rolled over several times in front of witnesses, before deciding it was boring and giving up on it again.
- She's good at sitting up on her own on a flat surface; she can play independently in that posture for several minutes, looking around and waving her arms. She can't yet sit herself up, but she's very stable once you put her up.
- She's quite good at scooting around her crib and rotating overnight. We still haven't caught her doing it during the day, which seems odd, as she clearly wants to move around. Still, every morning we find her in some new orientation, so she must have the ability at least unconsciously.
- She's starting to babble! It's not the fully-fledged stream of random consonant-vowel pairs which are true babbling, but it's a very clearly enunciated "ah wa wa wa wa wa wa wa" even so. Every so often, a different consonant does slip in as well, but they're still pretty uncommon.
Not everything has been perfectly delightful, unfortunately. She's had a runny and stuffy nose over the past few days, which means that she's been waking up every hour or so overnight distraught that she can't breathe properly; she falls right back asleep after a few minutes vertical on one of our shoulders, but that means that either Christina or I must get up and get vertical with her for a while. (Waking up isn't the trouble, as it's absolutely impossible to sleep when she's screaming in distress.)
That's all part of parenthood, though; it's not so much a surprise. What is a surprise and a delight is how quickly she's starting to blow through developmental milestones. The rollercoaster is definitely starting to pick up some speed now!
